SAIL THE SEA - HOW FAR WILL YOU GO?
I'm sitting here thinking about what I could possibly write to go with today's post and came up with a few ideas but the song How Far I'll Go from the Disney movie Moana keeps playing in my head. The little girl in me enjoys a good Disney movie but to tell the truth, I wasn't privy to Moana until my 4-year-old niece made me aware and subsequently fall in love with the movie. She loves Moana and I can definitely see why.
In a nutshell, Moana is a young girl who is chosen to lead her people on their Island but is drawn to the sea and has to choose between staying comfortable in the role assigned to her by her family or following the voice from within that calls her to be what she was created to be.
My sisters and I often joke that my niece is actually my child because we share very similar tastes. Perhaps it's because I'm a big kid but we both love tropical things and on several occasions, we've dressed alike. I get a ton of cool aunty points from her for all the novelty purses I own and while she's only 4, I can see our family's creative blood flowing through her tiny veins.
Moana is truly a lovely story for children as well as adults and resonates deeply with me. I'm so grateful my niece introduced me to it.
I've changed courses along the way in my life and if I hadn't listened to that in I'd probably be a miserable doctor at this point. I'm still listening to that voice and truth be told it can be very scary but it's never steered me in the wrong direction. I've talked about pursuing your purpose many times over but I can't help but stress the joy and fulfillment that comes from doing the thing that sets your soul on fire.
With that being said, I'll leave you with a few lyrics from the song that's stuck in my head.
