TROPICAL GLAM PATIO STYLE & THOUGHTS ON MANIFESTATION
Hi gals & guys! I've been in decor mode recently while working on a new interior gig and realized I never shared a post for this special outdoor project I completed last Summer.
The project was a collaboration with Apartment Therapy and Ashley HomeStore and the concept was to have two influencers style a pair of Ashley HomeStore outdoor chairs while embodying their unique sense of style.
Staying true to my style, influenced by my Guyanese culture, I decided to create a tropical-glam oasis where I imagined an outdoor space for a city dweller with a backyard patio or rooftop area. If you’re a city dweller you know space can be very limited so I wanted to design a space that was small in size but big on style with an infusion of color and prints. The concept began with me putting together several different mood boards and once the final one was decided on, it was time to bring that board to life in the studio.
I still remember the feeling when I walked into the studio and saw my concept I created digitally come to life. I was filled with joy and gratitude and in the moment I realized how I had manifested this opportunity.
See, long before this amazing opportunity, I dreamt of decorating spaces. My earliest memory is that of me taking a cardboard box that our tins of Fernleaf milk powder came in and turning that box into a dollhouse. I’d draw windows and a door on the outside, cut them out then take fabric scraps and create curtains for the windows. This behavior continued as I grew and would lead me to decorating spaces for school parties, prom, a wedding at the age of 16 and I even had a DIY dorm-decor TV show while in college. It was one episode long due to budget constraints but hey, it aired on Stony Brook’s SBUTV20 and I was elated! I also remember pretending to be Kim Myles of "Myles of Style" when I moved off campus and into my first apartment. I’d walk around my apartment pretending to have a HGTV design/makeover show while I decorated the space. Over the years I didn’t realize what I was doing but looking back I can see it was a form of manifestation via my imagination and dreams.
God placed this and many more creative endeavors in my heart and it is my responsibility to keep dreaming and working towards his promise for my life. So friends, don’t quit on your dreams or passions. Even when life gets tough and throws challenges your way, keep persevering. Personally, I know this is just a sliver of the pie and I’m claiming all that God has in store for me because I know God has prepared a table for me and blessed me with these gifts. Now in all honesty, the goal isn’t always clear and many days I’m not certain of the outcome but I’m doing the work, walking in faith and trusting my instincts and God for guidance.
If you’d like more perspective on manifestation, I encourage you to check out my friend Mikaela Pabon’s post here. She talks about how she literally manifested the family of her dreams and listen y’all, that post is so inspiring and full of the cutest kids you’ll ever see. My ovaries couldn’t take all that sweetness!
