SHORT & SWEET

When this dress arrived, I was excited to try it on. I was a bit skeptical about the size because it looked tiny when I pulled it out the bag. Nevertheless, I tried it on and it fit! I adored the mixing of  my favorite banana-leaf print with garden roses and butterflies but then I realized something about the dress that made me second-guess keeping it.

A SWEET SUMMER PICNIC

The long 4th of July Holiday weekend is almost here and I'm looking forward to some much needed rest & relaxation. Work has been pretty intense these past couple of weeks and so it will be much needed for me.

The city usually starts clearing out mid-week and by the time the weekend rolls around, it practically ghost town. This makes it the perfect opportunity (in my opinion) to have a sweet picnic in the park.

I'm sharing some picnic essentials & a retro-fab 4th of July look after the jump so be sure to click through! Β

TROPICAL SPRING

Spring is my second favorite season and every year I look forward to its arrival and renewal of all things beautiful. After several cold and dreary months, there is nothing better than fresh blooms, greenery & the chance to wear sandals. Spring provides hope of hot Summer days to come and just the thought of being sun-kissed gets me giddy.

With only a few weeks left until the official arrival of Summer, I want to share this pastel-hued look with you. Pastels are usually popular this time of year especially with floral prints while tropical prints tend to be reserved for Summer. This look intersects the two seasons perfectly; combiing the soft colors of Spring with patterns reminiscent of a tropical Summer on the islands. It's the perfect mix for a Caribbean gyal such as myself.

DIY - VINTAGE SCARF STRAP FOR YOUR BAG

Basket bags are all the rage this season and I've been admiring all the various modern styles that are popping up. I have a soft spot for them and a (not so) small collection consisting of mostly vintage ones mixed with a few modern styles in various shapes, colors and materials.

They're the perfect statement accessory and are versatile enough to transition throughout the seasons but there can be a downside to these pretty pieces.

Basket bags often come with short top handles and no shoulder strap which can become annoying when you're doing activities that require both hands such as vintage shopping or sampling ice cream at a food festival.

While doing both activities (not at the same time although that would be dreamy), I decided to turn my vintage silk scarf into a shoulder strap for my modern wicker bucket bag

CH, CH, CHH, CHERRY BOMB!

We're less than a week away from Memorial day and in my mind that's the beginning of Summer! I know it's not the official calendar date but family and friends usually get together on this weekend for activities that are synonymous with Summer. Grills are being dusted off right now and many are prepping for a weekend BBQ or picnic. Some may even venture to the beach if the weather permits (fingers crossed).

It's also that time of year where Cherries (one of my favorite American fruits) starts appearing on fruit stands and in supermarkets. If you're wondering why I call it an American fruit it's because they're different from the cherries we have in Guyana. The first time I tasted one was almost 11 years ago when I first moved to the US. We were at a family BBQ for Memorial day, I took one bite and couldn't get enough. It's one of the things I look forward to when Summer rolls around in NYC.

So as we approach the season, Mildred decided it would be fitting to share her cherry pinup beach look for the weekend. We're hoping the weather permits our first beach day of the season so we can wear this cute retro swimsuit again.

JUST PEACHY πŸ‘βœŒπŸ½

NYC came alive this weekend with soaring high temperatures and I couldn't resist being outside with all the other folks soaking up the glorious Spring sunshine. I ditched my Saturday chores and ventured to Brooklyn for an afternoon stroll. I stopped to smell the deli flowers along the way (NYC style), ate some pizza, did a bit of Vintage shopping and finsished the day with a little ice cream treat.

The streets were alive with vendors and artists galore and I shared quite a bit on my Instagram story. It was such a lovely day and I was in the mood for some modern-vintage 70's style.

ACCESSORIZING LIKE MY MAMA

I love accessories and if you've been keeping up with me that shouldn't come as a surprise to you. I mean, I have a weakness for all accessories and I blame my Mom entirely. Yes Joan, if you're reading this, it's all your fault!!!

Growing up I would be in awe of Mom's extensive collection and played with all her pieces. She has accessories in every color, size and shape. From jewelry, to belts, to scarves, sunglasses and shoes; that woman is the #accessoryqueen.

I post a a lot of my accessories on IG from my very own collection and often get asked for sources. Today I'm sharing a few pieces & linking to similar ones as many of my accessories are vintage, belonged to Mom or are no longer available. Continue reading to see what I have lined up for you! It's pretty darn good!

HOLIDAY HAPPENINGS IN SOHO

A few weeks prior to Christmas (can you believe it's already over?), I ventured to my old stomping ground in SoHo. I was finally able to visited Society Social's, 73 Spring Shop popup after not being able to make it the last 2 years. I also did a bit of vintage shopping, thrifting and eating as well and wanted to share a few of the photos with you. I'm feeling a little lazy today, so I'm not going to write much.

I am off from work and should only be watching classic movies and eating ice cream but with all the holiday festivities, I didn't get a chance to share the images with you, especially those of the pop-up shop. Do enjoy and now back to Move Over, Darling and ginger ice cream (I made myself).
