Dear Mom,

A million words could never describe my love and admiration for you. You are the first love of my life, my guide, my moral compass, my motivation and example! 

This Mother’s Day, I decided to do something a little fun by re-creating this look of yours. I’m so happy I didn’t blow my cover though! The other day when you came over and spotted my heels I was sweating internally! Would you figure out what I was planning to do? You immediately exclaimed, “Oh my goodness, I had a pair of shoes this style and color and I even have a photo of it by the post office back home” when you saw them.

Little did you know, I got these heels to re-create that exact look of yours. For over a year I searched for the style and couldn’t find anything like it but a few months ago, like magic, I spotted these and lost my mind!  They’re not as detailed & stylish as yours but they would do the trick! 

With shoes secured I began putting together my look! I’m guessing this photo was taken in the early or mid 80s? I still marvel at your photos by the way. You were ahead of your time in style and you’re a true style icon and my biggest inspiration! You were doing what we now call #StreetStyle back in the 70s & 80s and I’m just trying to get caught up to what you were doing well before I was even a thought. Your creativity shines through in this photo and I especially like the way you styled your necklace! I mean, who does that?! 

I actually remember this necklace and the fact that you had it in every color imaginable! I can literally picture your humongous bag of necklaces and to this day I’m still “smad” (sad & mad, lol) when I remember how a certain person who shall remain nameless said they lost all your statement necklaces while we were moving. I tried to find a vintage one as long as yours and thought I did, but when it arrived in the mail it was long enough for Belle to do this look, lol. In the end I used one of those faux pearl necklaces I had because if there is anything you thought me is to use what you have, be creative and make it work! Also, you’re the reason for my ever-growing jewelry, shoes & purse collections. Thank you for passing down your love of style and creativity to me. After all #YouGotItFromYourMa and #IGetItFromMyMama 😅.

So Mom, to make a long story short, today I honor you through this recreation of one of your casual yet stylish looks and give God thanks for blessing me with such an amazing Mama. I wish you all of God’s loving blessings in your life and want to take a moment to truly say thank you for all you’ve sacrificed for us and all you continue to make possible!
