TROPICAL FAIR

What can I say, I’m a Farm Rio fanatic (for very obvious reasons) and this tiered linen blend dress is by far one of my absolute favorites! I mean look at this print y’all.

I got it early last year as part of a gift from my team (thanks team) and decided I’d save and wear it some place tropical for my Birthday this year with hopes of the panasonic being over and done with. As the new year and my birthday approached, the virus was still looming and I didn’t feel comfy traveling (risking exposure to myself and others), so I hung my dress up, fantasized about warmer days and made a style board for my Saturday IG style stories.

Honestly, I still thought about wearing it for my birthday right here in NYC but ended up being somewhat sensible with my outfit choice. I wore a jumpsuit with heat-tech undergarments but I wasn’t as sensible with my shoe choice for an outdoor NYC Brunch in January! What can I say? I was giddy to finally get out for a bite even though it was outdoors and hey, it was relatively “warm” for a Winter day. A girl couldn’t sacrifice her dress and heels at the same time!

Sidenote, I couldn’t feel my toes after that b-day brunch. Turns out it wasn’t as warm but a Bish looked cute!

Anywhoo, enough about the shoes and Winter, we’re here for the dress & sunshine today!

After receiving my vaccine recently, I proceeded to book my first tropical trip in April and without a doubt, this dress was on my packing list.

Funny enough, I swapped out the Sophia Webster zebra heels from that original board and used a different zebra pair that in my opinion, looked better in real life.

I definitely subscribe to the more is more; less is a bore philosophy but there’s also a certain je ne sais quoi when it comes to combining pieces. In this instance I decided a bit of a simpler heel would balance out the overall aesthetic, allowing the dress to be the visual star.

What I created with my style-board didn’t materialize exactly the way I envisioned it but sometimes that’s how it goes. The key to using my style boards (located on the site or on Instagram) is to ensure you make it yours! Use pieces you already own, mix in vintage/thrifted items and be sure to try on the looks so you can decide what works for you!

My other accessories pretty much stayed the same with stripe sunnies and zebra bangles to play up the stripes in the dress. A fruit charm basket bag (purchased second-hand) complemented the street vendor print inclusive of an array of tropical plants, fruits and veggies; a tropical soul’s paradise. To complete the look, I added toucan earrings because hashtag tropical vibes!

Unfortunately, this specific “Tropical Fair” print is no longer available but have no fear, Farm has other beautiful dresses this year in the same/similar style that pack a punch and are definitely worth getting. I rounded them up for you in the widget. Enjoy!
