When BuzzFeed reached out to me to participate in a Frida-inspired style post I was beyond elated! I've admired Frida and her work for a very long time and even created a DIY Frida costume last Halloween as a way to honor her legacy. This BuzzFeed post was right up my alley and today I'm happy to share more of my look with you.

Frida Kahlo is the embodiment of feminism. Through her art, activism and personal style, she etched an indelible mark on the world and fashion as we know it.

Kahlo was ahead of her time and epitomized beauty and vibrance juxtaposed with pain and vulnerability. She paid homage to her Mexican heritage through her inimitable style; wearing vivid colors, bold jewelry and her signature floral hair adornment. Her personal style as well as artwork inspires contemporary fashion and is evident in trends that grace the world’s runways, magazines, blogs and even local artisan boutiques. Frida is timeless and continues to inspire, even in death!

Kahlo’s unique sense of style, love for flora, bold traditional wear, statement jewelry and vibrant colors are elements that encapsulate everything I love in fashion! My Frida-inspired look is representative of those components fused with my modern-vintage panache. I’m wearing a vintage tiered floral maxi dress, contemporary ankle strap heels, black statement tassel-earrings(handmade by yours truly), a blush velvet flower hair clip and a vintage satin clutch with a golden bamboo clasp.

Let your floral dress be the star of the show! Pull your hair into a low bun with a middle part reminiscent of Frida. Neutral makeup is key in allowing your tassels and flowers to stand out.

This dress is not an off the shoulder style but I wanted to style it that way for the shoot so I left it un-zipped to the top, pulled the neckline off the shoulder and ta-da!

A special thank you to Daniela at BuzzFeed for including me in this wonderful lineup of creatives who adore Frida!
