RETRO-STYLE; MODERN-TWIST

Hello Darlings! It’s your girl Mildred aka #RetroAlterEgo bringing you retro-modern vacation style complete with Bettie bang and a tan!

Let me start today’s entry by saying, loving vintage-style doesn’t always mean wearing vintage pieces!

Yes, that’s right! You don’t have to wear vintage clothing to embrace the aesthetic and that’s coming from the lips of a bonafide vintage-lovah lovah!

While there are many upsides to wearing vintage, there are some downsides which include (but are certainly not limited to) affordability and sizing.

Sustainability has become a hot topic in the fashion world and vintage by an extension of that topic has become very trendy. Even big box stores have begun curating vintage collections and while there are definitely benefits to sustainability, I’ve observed the average prices for vintage and second-hand pieces increasing; making vintage as well as thrift shopping less affordable and accessible at times.

From my perspective this results in the opposite of what vintage-shopping and thrifting (at it’s core) means to me, but we can discuss that in further detail at a later time.

Additionally, finding larger vintage sizes (especially pants) can sometimes be challenging so today I want to show you how to rock the retro-look with modern pieces from head to toe!

My pinup leopard top is from a bikini set I’ve had for years (I’m just breaking all the rules today, aren’t I?) and my culottes are from Target’s Who What Wear collection. I’ve been shopping their collection for quite some time and love all the pieces I own.

Let me tell you, these pants fit like a glove! I love how high waisted they are with no gaping in the back, which is super flattering for zeee curves.

My beaded Maasai bangles are from my shop Lillian & Joan. Mules, purse and sunnies are modern and a few years old and as I’m typing this, I realized I’m actually wearing one vintage thing and it’s my polka dot clip-on earrings.

p.s. I’ll be tagging my Bettie bangs on Instagram today, so head there to get more details!
