A VISIT TO CASA AZUL đź’™
One of the main reasons we traveled to Mexico City instead of Mexico’s beach regions was to visit Casa Azul/Museo Frida Kahlo.
As many of you know, I adore Frida Kahlo and my best friend does as well so this was by far our favorite experience on this trip. The museum is located in Coyoacán (one of the oldest and most gorgeous neighborhoods in Mexico City) and the house of Frida Kahlo is absolutely stunning and filled with so much beauty & history.
Upon entry into the blue house’s yard, I was enthralled by the expansive and detailed grounds. The array of flora helped me understand even more why Frida (no matter where she lived) would always return to her family home; where she was born and passed away. My best friend and I got a deeper understanding of the correlation of Frida’s work and art to her home and felt truly grateful to have an up close view of her home and important art. There was even an exhibition that showcased some of Frida’s more personal items such as her clothing, accessories, body casts and family photographs.
Video was not allowed at the exhibition but for a small fee we were allowed to take photographs. Below are a few of the pictures I took of some of my favorite paintings, spaces and items from Frida’s home. I hope you enjoy this peek inside the museum and if you ever decide to visit (when we can safely travel again) be sure to purchase your tickets in advance and you’ll avoid waiting on a very long line. Tickets can be purchased here, online and once you’re inside, you’ll not only have access to the museum and any exhibitions but also a cute cafe and gift shop. We got art and a pair of pretty hand earrings from the shop.
