GROOVY GOOD VIBRATIONS ✌🏾️
Well folks, I'm slowly easing my way out of denial that Summer is over. The first official day of Fall is this Thursday and no amount of crying will change that. So what's a girl to do? The weather is already cooling down and as a last hurrah I decided to do an end of Summer look that works well for the slight chill in the air. Let's face it, Winter is the one I have quarrels with.
Join Mildred (my #RetroAlterEgo) and I on our last Summer Sixteen stroll in NYC decked out in a playful look inspired by Archie/Betty & Veronica comics with a 70's vibe.

LADYBUG LOVE 🐞❤️
Hello love bugs! I hope you had a good weekend. Have you ever found yourself saving your pieces for a special occasion or do you refuse to wear a look until you get the perfect accessory? I do this often, sometimes having unworn pieces for a year or more and the change in seasons don't help with my stubborn ways!
Putting together a look is a creative process for me as well as a way to express myself. Much like my DIY projects or when I'm decorating an event or space; I have a vision and won't stop until that vision comes to life. Do you do this when putting together a look or creative project? Can't stop, won't stop!

FRIDA KAHLO INSPIRED STYLE - MY BUZZFEED FEATURE
When BuzzFeed reached out to me to participate in a Frida-inspired style post I was beyond elated! I've admired Frida and her work for a very log time and even created a DIY Frida costume last Halloween as a way to honor her legacy. The BuzzFeed post was right up my alley and today I'm happy to share more of my look with you.
Continue reading to find out why I'm intrigued by Frida and how her style and art inspires my style. I'm also sharing pieces with you so you too can recreate this entire look! So what are you waiting on, click through!
CLASSIC WOMAN - PINAFORES, BOWS & RUFFLES
Oh how I love the Summer! I never want to say goodbye to warm temperatures, tropical prints and frozen drinks but even when I cry into my cocktail glass, the seasons never listen to me!
We're now a month away from Fall and I'm trying to make peace (kinda, sorta) and simply embrace the transition because I really don't have many quarrels with Fall except it indicates #WinterIsComing and that's when my tantrums are amplified.
During the early days of Fall, I enjoy that you can get away with wearing some of your Summer pieces, especially pants and maxi dresses. Today I'm sharing a transitional look that can be worn on a cool Summer evening or early Fall day.

CONEY ISLAND DANCE PARTY
Hey hey! Happy weekend!!! Mildred visited Coney Island a few weeks ago and found herself having a little dance party near the art walls. Here's a quick video I snuck of her prancing around to "Heart of Glass" by Blondie! That was not the actual song playing in the background but like Beyonce, #MildredAlwaysOnBeat (sometimes, lol).
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a wonderful week ahead!
COOPER HEWITT DESIGN MUSEUM THROWBACK
Back in February Stef and I visited the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum as one of our Valentine's Day activities and today I'm sharing a little throwback with you. We experienced the Beauty exhibition and it did not disappoint! The exhibit examines the question of "Why beauty now?" and takes you through an "immersive, multisensory experience".
I shared a few images on Instagram and one of them was re-grammed by the Museum's account. I felt pretty cool about it but even cooler when I noticed a photo right under mine of Beyonce and Jay Z visiting the exhibition.

MAGICAL DRESS!
A couple of months ago, Mom and I were out on the town for a girl's day at the Metropolitan Museum and decided to venture into a few stores to browse around after the museum. Of course, browsing turned into shopping as soon as Mom pointed me in the direction of this piece! I was immediately attracted to the abstract floral-like pattern and bright colors. The piece also reminded me of my sequin flower heels I purchased in the Spring.
Mom and I went straight to the rack and to our surprise this dress was not a dress but a romper instead! Can someone say magical!!!! We were already sold, then we noticed more magic in the form of pockets ! The deal was signed, sealed and delivered on the spot. Well, a card was swiped and a receipt was delivered!

DIY - MATCHING POM POM SANDALS & BAG CHARM
Pom poms, like tassels have been a long time favorite of mine and recently they've been trending like crazy. You can find them on clothing, pillows, bags, blankets, shoes and even jewelry!
Earlier this season I created a video for some simple colorful DIY pom pom heels and today I'm sharing another tutorial for pom pom shoes with a matching bag charm. You've probably seen the trendy brightly colored pom pom sandals around but for this DIY I wanted to mix things up a bit. I decided to use muted colors that would go well with my 4+ year old tan leather sandals. This is a good way to refresh a pair of shoes that you've had for some time.
The basket bags are also very popular with pom pom adornments so I decided to create a matching pom pom bag charm for my vintage basket tote.
You can complete this simple DIY in a weekend and wow your friends with your matching set! So what are you waiting on? Let's get started below the jump!
MILDRED'S RETRO PLAY-DAY
Hi Darlings! I had an activity-filled day on Sunday starting with a quick SoHo stroll for burgers, fries and rice pudding, a trip to Coney Island for some fun in the sun and snow cones, then a Soca party where I danced the night away (until I got really sleepy at 9:30pm, lol)! What a day, what a day!
I also posted a handful of vids and pics of my day on Snapchat and Instagram (IG stories too) so be sure to follow along for all the fun!
It's no secret, I love summer days and more importantly I love to let the girl in me play! I think it's so important to schedule consistent play days in your life, especially as women. A play day is simply that; a special time dedicated to having fun in a child-like manner. We can get pretty busy with our grown-up lives and never imagined the independent, stay up late, do whatever you want adult life would entail not so glam activities such as feeding yourself, waking up early to get to work or paying many adult bills. I strongly believe in taking a break from a busy lifestyle to do something you enjoyed as a child. Sometimes I color, ride my bicycle or produce a full-fledged music video in my room to Beyonce's Ego. This "music video" usually involves sequins, heels, a scene rolling across the bed with me singing, "I got a big ego, such a huge #RetroAlterEgo! I walk like this 'cus I can back it up!" It's my time to relax and be silly.
Speaking of egos, Mildred (my #RetroAlterEgo) decided to do a little playing herself while at Coney Island! Click through to see her latest threads and how you can recreate this retro play-day look for your next summer outing.
STYLE & THE BAR CART - MANGOES & MACAWS
Hello darlings! How's your summer going? I've been taking some time to enjoy beach days, fresh summer fruits and lots of ice-cream. Summer is my favorite season in the US and that's not too surprising since I grew up in Guyana. Guyana is located in South America and is the only country in the region with English as it's first language. Our culture is very much Caribbean even though we're located in this region.
Today's Style & The Bar Cart post is dedicated to my home country! I decided to capture the tropical essence of Guyana and our love to entertain and have a good time. A good Guyanese party is filled with plenty delicious food, nuff rum and music to mek you wine to de ground.
Continue reading to see how you can create your very own Guyanese Mangoes & Macaws bar cart for the summer!
